Vattayappam

Vattayappam

I got this recipe from my Amma, but she used to call it as "kinnathappam".But blogging taught me, what is kinnathappam and that is entirely different from vattayappam.I don't know why she has given that name to vattayappam!!!!!She will mix leftover idly batter with jaggery and cardamom and will make an appam just like vattayappam and that too named as kinnathappam! So finally I concluded that whatever items she is preparing in plate(kinnam) that all are kinnathappam !!!!!!!!!

Beetroot pachadi

Beetroots are excellent sources of anti oxidants and vitamins. They are well known for their power to lower blood pressure
Here is a healthy and colorful dish using beetroot cooked in yogurt and coconut gravy.

There are different versions of pachadi and kichadi in south India. I am sharing the recipe of pachadi which I usually prepare at my home.
It is one of the dishes serving for ona sadya(feast during onam)

Kakkayirachi kappa thoran/clams with tapioca

If you are a Keralite, you would have surely heard abut a special combination available in the Toddy shops (kallushaap, as we call it in malayalam) in Kerala - Kallu and kakkayirachi.  Kakkayirachi is considered to be a spicy hot side dish for toddy.
Hey, now you might be thinking, how do I know this. No, No... I have never been to a toddy shop.  Toddy shop is a prohibited area for ladies in my village but is considered as the perfect hangout area for men (atleast in my village).

But to be frank after hearing about the taste of this dish from different people in my village, I have also felt like tasting it once from the toddy shops. ;) ;)

Chicken salna /Thattukadai salna

Chicken salna is a very famous dish available in the street side shops of Tamil Nadu.
Parotta with hot and spicy chicken salna makes an amazing combo! I match it with Puttu , chapathi or even with idly.

Vanilla ice cream

I usually follow an old method for preparing ice creams - using egg and ice cream powder.
But this recipe is entirely different and the main attraction is that it is eggless !!

Vanilla ice cream

If we can prepare ice cream at home itself without an ice cream maker and with minimal ingredients, would we ever choose to eat ice cream from outside?? After all, home made is always the best right??

Again another recipe from Tanya.
My hubby is a die-hard fan of eggs. So I am always in search of newer versions of egg curry.
During this search, one fine day I came across this recipe in Tanya's blog and I tried it. Needless to say, now this egg curry is a super hit on our table.

Sravu mulakittathu / Shark curry

Who will say no to hot rice with spicy fish curry ?
Again, here I am with a spicy recipe. My mom prepares shark curry in roasted coconut gravy. But my MIL prefers to the red gravy, the spicy version. Both are tasty and here I'm sharing my mom in law's recipe with some variations.

Did you check my Sardines/mathi curry ?
